What were the main ideas we learned this past week?
This week I, like many others, started a new grade in school. It was exciting. From the waking up early, well maybe not that, to see friends you haven't seen in the last three months are so. It's great. That thrill you get as you walk into the school for the first day all dressed in new clothes and shoes, and for once you feel like you belong. But then you get your schedule with your classes and you look at that piece of darn paper that decides your fate for the next twelve weeks and you started to think what if I don't know anybody in my classes, oh dear. You start to sweat as you walk to you locker not once seeing a familiar face anywhere. You finally get to you locker and open it to put your stuff away. Your nervous as you should be as you close your locker and started walking to your first class in months. You walk into the class and a smile forms on your face, you see one then two then three of your friends. You start to talk completely ignoring the bell as your Que to settle down and listen to the teacher. The teacher starts to talk, but you don't care, all that matters is the friends you need to catch up with. You go the whole hour talking to friends till you are dismissed to move to your other classes. So off you go to your next class and then the one after that always talking, never listening. Teachers will try to get you to listen, but you just turn your cheek.
But at the end of the day, at the end of the week even you need to remember that teachers are here to help you learn and grow. They want you to take in what they are saying, as someday when you've moved on to better places you will know to shake people's hands when you meet them. You will know how to write proper messages to you parents who sit at home and worry about you. You know that you should show respect to those around you as they read aloud or share their thoughts. You will understand what it means to care about things, to care about people. And most importantly you will learn to that sometimes school isn't just about talking to your friends and having a good time, sometimes it's about the things your teacher try to get into your head. And that's the most important thing. Learn what you can, now otherwise later you might regret it.
